Nothing relaxes me more than gardening. Adding some pop to the front yard and zip to the back yard. After two weeks of preparing manuscripts for an editor and an agent, I decided to treat myself to some fresh air and flowers.
My mother, sister and I had a girls’ day last Thursday. We spent the morning picking out flowers, had lunch at Jake’s Place and then unloaded and placed my mother’s flowers around her yard. My sister, Robin, would plant them as her Mother’s Day gift to our mother who was ninety in March. I’m giving her Eric Braeden’s book I’ll Be Damned and a new cooking pot.
Saturday was perfect for tilling the ground and setting my new beauties out. I didn’t want to have to worry about dinner so I put a Boston Butt in the oven to cook while I spent the day playing in the dirt. A hot shower and glass of wine soothed my aching muscles while I watched the Kentucky Derby.
There’s still a lot that needs to be done. More pavers to set, grass seed to thicken the yard, weeding and mulch. But this is a start. It gives me a reason to add a little more red here, yellow there, white in my white garden.
The Florida room is one of my favorite places to write. The muse flows as I listen to the birds, smell the flowers and gaze on the colors across the back yard. This week I will be working on more chapters to Key to His Heart. If I meet this deadline, my reward will be another trip to the nursery for more beautiful flowers to plant!
My Hosta’s are beautiful this year and they put me in the mood to get started.
The Dahlias are so elegant. I may have gone a little overboard
Part of my view from the Florida Room.
I love hostas, too, Kay. So many different kinds!
Good cuz
Thanks Susan. Sorry to be so long with my reply. I love gardening and watching the fruits of my labor.
