Recipe
For my first “Next Chapter” I thought I would include a recipe I am often requested to prepare. Tavern Bits is a variation of an entrée the Hanover Tavern served when it was a dinner theater many years ago. Wayne is a hunter and I adapted it for the venison. I also prepared it for wine tastings in the wine shop and had many requests for the recipe.
Tavern Bits
Cut 2 lbs. beef/venison into 2-inch chunks. Flour and season (salt, pepper, garlic salt/powder) chunks. I also sprinkle meat tenderizer on one side. Brown chunks in small amount of oil and put in baking dish. Slice one large onion and arrange over top of chunks. Mix: drippings with ½ cup water, ¼ teaspoon thyme, two tablespoon vinegar and four tablespoons catsup. This can be doubled to taste and once mixed, pour over the chunks in the baking dish. Cover with aluminum foil and roast at 300-degrees for two hours.
Contest!
What is your interest? Favorite recipe? The first three people that offer their comments will receive a copy of Spicer’s Challenge or Dreams Fulfilled. Their choice.
What is in your next chapter?
I found your blog very inspirational! I recently retired and find myself floundering to find something that gives me a sense of purpose. I recently started converting an old shed into a potting shed/studio where I can pot everything for my vegetable and flower gardens. I can also reporpose some furniture or garden items I find when I go searching through flea markets. I love to read and have to say that Eve and Roarke are my absolute favorite couple from the ones you mentioned. Keep reaching for the stars and I will be following your blogs.
Good for you! Retirement is good. Don’t you just LOVE Eve and Roarke! I started re-reading the “In death” series again last fall. Glad you are following your passion. I love working out in the yard and gazing upon my hard work when I sit on the patio with a glass of wine. Thanks for the compliments. All the best, Kay
