Since this is Thanksgiving week, I thought I would do a blog on being thankful. It came to me over the weekend when I was at a book signing and a reader complimented me on my books, bought copies of each as a Christmas present for her grandmother, and signed up for my newsletter on the spot via her cell phone. I also enjoyed “catching up” with friends I haven’t seen in awhile.

Thankful Jar

I asked my manicurist. She told me about her family’s “thankful jar” – every day during the month of November until Thanksgiving Day, each member of the family notes on a slip of paper one thing they are thankful for. They open it on Thanksgiving morning and read them all. She and her husband have two young children and she shared pictures of last year’s slips of paper. We talked about how her boys were more aware of the needs of others and thankful of what they had.

I asked another manicurist and she was not only thankful for her family and boyfriend but more importantly, she loved her job, her co-workers and just enjoyed working at Hair Mosaics.

I asked some of my writer friends. One is thankful to making memories with her family and friends. Another was thankful for her family, friends, and health but as an author, she was “so thankful for the other authors that I have befriended in this wonderful indie community and the amazing readers that love my stories.”

My webmaster listed: pets, husband that will do anything for her, Loving God, roof over her head, food in the house, family near and far. “You may think these are grandiose things that I came up with but these are the things that I am thankful for every single day.”

As for me, I thank the Lord for every day He gives me to pursue my dreams. I am also thankful for a successful career that meant something to my community; my husband that loves me unconditionally, gives me the time to write and puts up with my craziness; three healthy children (and their spouses) that listened to us and have established successful careers for themselves; three healthy grandchildren that warm my heart whenever I am with them; my mother and sister who encourage me to write and the many readers that say they enjoy my stories.

What about you?
