I posted a picture on my Facebook of my husband and me with our two oldest grandchildren as we left from casting our votes. I described the picture as a priceless moment mainly because we were creating a memory with Jett and Summer. I laugh because as I sat down to vote, I realized I didn’t have my reading glasses. My granddaughter offered me hers, but they were blurrier. I could basically read the ballot but wanted to include her and asked her to read the ballot to me. I heard my grandson’s voice on the other side of the partition and chuckled that my husband had apparently forgotten his glasses as well.

Do you have a special moment? Something that brings a smile to your face?

We welcomed our youngest granddaughter into the family in January. What’s so priceless about this is that Avery shares her birthday with her parents. Yes, all three were born on January 26th. I will never forget getting that early morning call that they were on the way to the hospital. We arrived in time to hear the tune the hospital plays throughout the halls when a baby is born, and I remember wondering if she had arrived.

Do you have a special memory? From school? Christmas?

One year I stressed over what to give my father for Christmas. A few months earlier he had asked me to read the words to Harry Chapin’s Cats in the Cradle as our entire family sat around the dinner table. I think he missed having us around. He used to say if he had a problem, he would solve it at 3:30 on the next Wednesday afternoon. Usually, the problem was solved or forgotten by then. That year, I gave my father a pocket calendar with the third Wednesday of each month circled in red. I’ll never forget the happiness that shone in his eyes when I explained that I would be visiting with him and my mother the afternoon on those dates.

When you catch the scent of chocolate chip cookies or brownies, are you reminded of your youth? Each time Jett and Summer visit, we always make cookies. This time, Summer brought a cookie mix with her and Jett found the brownie mix in the cabinet. Hopefully, many years down the road, they will remember our afternoons in the kitchen.Do certain songs remind you of a special time in your life? Whenever I hear the Beatles song, “Yesterday” I am reminded the time I listened to it being played on the piano behind me as we flowed down the Seine River and thinking, “Can it get any better than this?” I hope you will enjoy.
