These weekly blogs are sometimes very challenging. I struggled to find a topic for this week and almost decided not to write one. Then I met with my writing group, “Tuesday Night Writes” and came home inspired.

Have you ever belonged to an organization, club, church group or circle of friends that keeps you motivated?

Every other Tuesday night, I meet with a group of fellow writers to network. We also write but more importantly, we share ideas. There are five of us. One just published her 40th book, another will be releasing her first book next month and the rest of us have experienced the thrill of “release day” – title of my August 2, 2018 blog.

The publishing world has changed the past twenty years, and Indie writing is very time-consuming. Not only do we have to create the books but there are so many things that need to be done before, during and after release day which is why authors are so willing to share tips.

My writing partners encouraged me to do a newsletter, hence my blog “You Need a Newsletter” – July 5,2018. They also suggested ways to build up my email list. My first monthly newsletter, Kay Uncorked, premiered on July 18, and my list of subscribers increases each month.

They introduced me to an editing program that analyzes manuscripts and helps me fine-tune my stories. I like to think my writing has improved as a result.

In August, we spent a Saturday together writing in the morning, the afternoon with a professional photographer and now have our own author photos.

Hardly a meeting goes by that I don’t learn something. Tonight, we talked about dictating books vs. typing on the laptop and the best marketing tools – bookmarks, pens, brochures…… We also discussed the advantages of offering free ebooks and guess what? In addition to releasing Northwest to Love on December 1st, I will be offering my first free ebook!

Do you have a group or friend that inspires you?
